Filamu, which is the Swahili word for film, will also help to build the curatorial platform in the local industry and enhance the reputation of local film practitioners for a global market. 10 short films that explore the unique worldview and experiences of Africans curated by Nkosi Ncube and Mercy Mangwana will be screened at the festival. This year the collection has films from Kenya, Gambia, Botswana , Malawi , Zimbabwe and Uganda from emerging filmmakers. The films in their diverse formats and genres tackle various explosive theses from sustainable production, women empowerment, religion, spirituality, identity , family among others.
